The ButtPrints™ Legacy
In the mid-2000s, Tom Miller established a distinctive presence in performance art with his ButtPrints™ series. Created through direct bodily impression during live performances, the works were documented in local coverage, including a 2005 Gainesville Sun article referencing Miller’s “ButtPrints” in the context of his multidisciplinary performances, and a 2010 piece noting the same practice during a live event. These early works were acquired by private collectors and remain a defining element of Miller’s practice, with pieces later changing hands on the secondary market.
From Butt to Butterfly
PaTaintings™ represent the logical continuation and refinement of this foundational body of work. Where the ButtPrints™ captured singular, direct impressions, the PaTaintings™ advance the inquiry through a more deliberate performative process: the controlled application of a specific part of the artist’s body in combination with a precise mixture of acrylic colors on paper. The resulting works are one-of-a-kind compositions, many of which display emergent butterfly-like forms and organic symmetries.
This series is strictly limited to six works only. No further pieces will be produced.

Given the extreme limitation and direct continuity with the sold-out ButtPrints™ series, these works represent a compelling acquisition opportunity for collectors. Early owners of Miller’s previous body works have seen strong secondary market interest, with pieces occasionally appearing on platforms such as eBay and FaceBook Marketplace for well over three times their purchase value.
Artist Statement:
The body remains the primary site of experience and meaning. In the PaTaintings™, the artist engages this reality through a disciplined process of direct transfer. Each work arises from the intimate contact between anatomical form and a multi-pigment mixture, producing compositions that register both the indexical trace of the body and emergent visual structures.
These pieces operate at the intersection of presence and material transformation, asserting the continued vitality of embodied practice within contemporary art. Modest in scale, the PaTaintings™ achieve depth through economy and precision. They affirm the value of immediate, unrepeatable physical engagement in an increasingly mediated cultural field.
The archival presentation preserves the integrity of the works while honoring their intimate character.
